nellacittaTo my Bones loving friend(s), apologies! I admit to being totally biased towards what I've been watching recently, but if you don't want to see the vote turn out not in your favor, stop now.
Warning, lots of spoilers for both shows below.
"I have a hard job, Castle, and having you around makes it a little more fun."
A Compare and Contrast between "Castle" and "Bones."
Similarities:
1) Man and woman (both straight) must work together to solve crimes! They are both hottt!
2) One of the two is not a traditional crime fighter.
3) People around them think they are in secretly in love/lust (or are just in denial about it.)
4) Both main women characters have disappeared/murdered mothers.
5) One of the pair is all about a private life, the other is less so.
6) The dudes are sensitive fathers.
7) Fightin' crime!
8) Gross opening sequence/finding the body.
9) Solving the crime end sequence

How they match up?
1) Winner: Castle. Yeah, Captain Malcolm Reynolds beats out Angel. Also, I'm totally obsessed with with Kate Beckett's hair.
2) Winner: Castle. I really like that the hardboiled detective is the woman. She is kickass and super smart and is pretty much always awesome. And Castle is consistently hilarious.
3) Winner: Castle. I admit to being biased after the "I love you but we can't be together" of season 5 Bones. I am feeling pretty over it. However, see the quote up top? I think a solid friendship that manages to form despite the differences is like, my TV romance kink (such as it is.)
4) Winner: Bones. I really like the mystery around Beckett's mother's murder. But even though it's been a while, I cry whenever Temperance Brennan does and it's mostly about her Mom. Oh Bones.
5) Winner: Castle. I like that Beckett is a mystery! I wish Booth's life were as much a myserty--honestly, one more blond chick and I'll die of boredom Seely. (Bones and Castle totally tie here, because I love them both and their attitudes about sex and relationships.)
6) Winner: Castle. Ok, not only is his kid a more talented (and older) actor, but she's never going to be used as an excuse for Castle to go to war. (Yes, bitterness bias detected once again.
7) Winner: toss-up. When I watch Castle, I think to myself: "there's no way you are finding all the evidence you need without a high tech lab and examination of the bones." But the last few episodes of Bones had some sloppy-seeming detective work.
8) Winner: Bones. How many times did I have to stop eating dinner while watching that show? A body in a safe just can't compete.
9) Winner: Castle. Dude, I love how they get all excited and figure out the story together. And sometimes they don't, and that's funny! I am less a fan of the montages that Bones loves to employ. No more montages!
10) Winner: Castle. It was only a clip, but they played Regina Spektor!
11) Winner: Castle. Rick Castle writes books! He is a huge huge dork. On Bones, every episode someone makes fun of the "squints" (THEY CALL THEM SQUINTS) for being too smart. I love the scientists on Bones and how smart they are, but very often it feels like the show does not.
12) Winner: Castle. Seriously, Castle dressing up like a space cowboy and being mocked for it was probably the moment the show won me over. How amazing would it be for Booth to be a vampire for Halloween? OMG, SO HILARIOUS. Someone should have made a Buffy joke by now, is what I'm saying.
13) Winner: Castle. Has there been one? I hope and pray there is a never a discussion about "love" being life changing or blah blah blah. My god, it is boring and my least favorite part of Bones.
14) Winner: Bones. Hands down! That's like, the epic protein of the show, and it is rock solid.
15) Winner: Castle. Seriously? Fox?
So, Castle wins this round, 11 vs 3 (one tie.)
This was fun! I may have to do some more comparative watching, and really give Bones a fair shot in the competition. There could be a whole discussion of "are they/aren't they" and what dynamic that adds to the show.
