Two of my very biggest pet peeves/lazy writing/I-don't-even-know-what-to-call-it were used in this episode:
  • 1: Characters making a mess because they won't talk to each other, for no good reason, and
  • 2: "I had no choice."
I'm mostly going to pick on Merlin here, because 1) WTFever, Gaius, 2) Arthur continues to be oblivious (seriously, he didn't hear Merlin cast that spell from RIGHT BEHIND HIM, ok), and 3) I am granting Morgana a little leeway, because she's been all on her own in this, and the only person who has ever truly helped her (Gaius) is Morgause.  (Actually, I have a lot of criticisms of how she's been written, but I'm going to skip them for now.  Why?  Because everytime the Dragon says "The witch, Morgana" I immediately side with her, no matter what.  Stupid stupid Dragon.)

SO.  MERLIN.

1: Why not tell Morgana that she's the reason everyone's fallen asleep?  It was clear she was confused about what was happening, and not actively in league with the evil forces.  Even without having to explain about the dragon, I think Merlin could have logic-ed it out and then given Morgana a choice. Ok, maybe that's a long shot, BUT STILL.

2: This is I suppose more obvious, but YOU MADE A CHOICE MERLIN.  MAYBE NOT A GOOD ONE, OR IN CIRCUMSTANCES OF YOUR CHOOSING, BUT A CHOICE WAS MADE.  I would like to believe that this is something he'll come to realize, that he'll be able to take some responsibility for the many many choices he makes, but it's hard to see that outcome.

I honestly don't even care about the rest.  I mean, there are some nice moments between Arthur and Merlin, Bradley makes some hilarious faces, Colin makes some intense faces (side note: the writers can change Merlin's background completely but Morgana is still an evil witch?  EFF THAT.), yay.

Alright.  Now I'm going to calm down and read fic.  Awesome!Morgana fic.
